Total Recall

• Instead, watch Blade Runner, Inception, Avengers, The Island or The Adjustment Bureau. Personally, I still look forward to the original Total Recall and The Running Man – another Schwarzenegger classic.
• Do enjoy the futuristic CGI-scenery of the city, and the zero-gravity scenes.

I can understand when movies become computer games because it’s a good story that you can build on, with more interactivity but with worse graphics. The opposite is a bit harder, like here when the film seem to be based on the game (especially since there is a book). The photo is directly taken from the computer game in some sequences, with the camera above and behind the main character at a fixed distance through jumping and hunting. Nothing wrong with that, but the story doesn’t develop well, taken from a computer game. I’m not the main character, I don’t need clues delivered in video sequences between the action sequences. Unfortunately, also the choreography was taken from the game, without any live feeling. This is really a shame because there is as usual a smart thought (the guy buys a memory that is exactly like the story that unfolds, so how do we know it’s not all just fake?) but that is lost in the constant hunt for more action. Philip K. Dick, who wrote the book which inspires all of this, has so much more to give than a movie like this. When I stop watching movies, I’ll read his complete works!

Filmer som blir datorspel kan jag förstå för det är en bra story som man bara bygger vidare på, med mer interaktivitet fast sämre grafik. Motsatsen är lite svårare, som här när man verkar ha gjort film av spelet (särskilt när det finns en bok). Fotot är i vissa sekvenser direkt taget från datorspel med kameran ovanför och bakom huvudpersonen på fast avstånd genom hopp och jakt. Inget fel i det, men storyn mår inte bra av att utvecklas som i ett datorspel. Jag är inte huvudpersonen, jag behöver inte få ledtrådar levererade i videosekvenser mellan actionsekvenserna. Tyvärr är även koreografin tagen från spelet, utan minsta levande känsla. Det här är synd för det finns som vanligt en spännnande tanke (han köper ju ett minne som är precis som handlingen, så hur vet vi att alltihop inte bara är på låtsas?) men den försvinner i actionhetsen. Philip K. Dick, som skrivit boken till grund för alltihop, har så mycket mer att ge än en film som den här. När jag slutar titta på film skall jag läsa hans samlade verk!
